Our courses
The faculty of special needs assisting at Portobello Institute provides opportunities to develop the specialist knowledge and practical skills required to support children, young people and adults with additional needs for professionals wanting to start, change or progress their careers. Areas of study include inclusive education, autism awareness, behavioural support, communication strategies and learner-centred approaches within educational settings.
Recognising the vital role special needs assistants play within schools, learning and care environments, programmes are designed to bridge theory and practice. Students build the confidence and capability required to support meaningful participation and positive learning experiences while creating a stronger sense of inclusion across school communities.

The area of Special Needs Education is receiving substantial funding and investment in recent years and is a rewarding and fulfilling role for those interested in caring for and supporting some of the most vulnerable in our society.
