About Danielle Prescott

My trajectory has always been one that has been in parallel between Academia and Practice and although many think I could have chosen one over the other, my answer has always been that with both means you can do each job better.  I need to work in sectors in which I teach so that I can pass on useful and relevant knowledge to students, and I need to know areas of development in academia that can inform practice.  I worked hard to secure my positions in very male dominated environments and that is something I am very proud of and not only because it is an achievement for myself but because it shows others (females especially) that it is possible.  My passion for Employability has allowed me to integrate this into elite sport and I can confidently say that most students over the past 15 years have benefited from this.  The portfolio of students who I have taught over the past 15 years is one to be admired with former students placed in relevant sectors all over the world, some of which are in very high positions within their organisations.

Danielle’s Philosophy to Education

My approach to education is student focused and industry driven.  Equipping students with a realistic expectation of what is required within industry is something that must be captured in curriculum design, assessment and teaching practice.  My role as a scout for a Premier League academy allows me to embed this into curriculum, share insights from a sector that is rarely seen from those on the outside and try to use my links with industry to help those who sometimes just need that helping hand onto the first rung of a career ladder.  My research in Employability has not only proved that industry expectations are crucial, but it has also highlighted that the need for students to be proactive in their own employability is just as important.  My motto is very much, I can only help those who are prepared to help themselves.
