“Always go through life with an open mind and you will learn something new each day.”

About Louise

Having completed a Diploma in Continuous Education; Train The Trainer in 2002 at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. I have delivered Portobello Institute’s Special Needs Assisting Level 5 and Level 6 courses over the last number of years in Galway city.

Trained as a Special Needs Assistant where I have gained vast experience and great insight into what is needed to work successfully as a Special Needs Assistant. Worked in a Special School for a number of years with students aged 4-18 years, where I gained invaluable experience working with students with a wide variety of needs. After working in a Special School I worked in Primary and Post Primary; Mainstream, Mild General Learning Disability (MGLD) and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Classes.

I love what I do both in school and working with Portobello. I also believe that continuous upskilling is vital for everyone in our changing environment.

Louise’s Teaching Philosophy

I am aware the majority of my students are at a crossroads in their professional life, looking at a career change, and can empathise with them and share my experience.

Special Needs Assistants are an integral part of the education system supporting students with special needs, assisting them in reaching their full potential. I also understand the importance of promoting independence for students with special needs.

My aim is for my students at Portobello to succeed and I will support them to do so.
