Louise Staunton
Special Needs Assisting
Position: Special Needs Assisting lecturer
“Always go through life with open to mind and you will learn something new each day.”
About Louise
I completed my Diploma in Continuous Education; Train The Trainer in 2002 at National University Of Ireland, Maynooth. I have delivered Portobello Institute’s Special Needs Assisting Level 5 and Level 6 courses over the last number of years in Galway city.
I have also trained as a Special Needs Assistant where I have gained vast experience and great insight to what is needed to work successfully as a Special Needs Assistant. I worked in a Special School for a number of years with students aged 4-18 years, here I gained invaluable experience working with students with a wide variety of needs. I have also worked in Primary and Post Primary Mainstream MGLD and ASD Classes.
I love what I do both in school and working with Portobello. I also believe that continuous upskilling is vital for everyone in our changing environment.
Louise’s Teaching Philosophy
I am aware the majority of my students are at a crossroads in their professional life, looking at a career change and can empathise with them and share my experience.
I understand that Special Needs Assistants are integral part of the education system supporting students with special needs, assisting them in reaching their full potential. I also understand the importance promoting independence for students with special needs.
I want to my students at Portobello to succeed and will support them to do so.
