Early Years & Montessori
Position: Early Years Lecturer
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”
I work in the same Montessori classroom the past 17 years. I still get excited about going to work each day and am passionate about what I do. It is an absolute privilege to be part of a child’s journey in life. It is so rewarding to observe each child grow in confidence, competence and become independent. I have educated and cared for the families of children over this time and built great relationships with children and adults alike. It is an honour for me to be part of a childs journey in life.
Observing life through the eyes of a child is inspiring and provides me with the necessary tools to prepare a stimulating and nurturing environment to assist the holistic development of each individual child in my care. Respecting children as citizens and following their interests and individual needs promotes an inclusive learning atmosphere. No two days are the same. There is always something new to learn from each day. Each day is based around observation, planning, evaluation and reflection.
As an ECCE Lecturer for Portobello since 2008, it is so valuable drawing from my personal experiences in the Montessori classroom to reinforce topics being explored by the adult learners. I have taught Montessori courses in Navan, Drogheda, Swords, Blanchardstown over the past 12 years. I am passionate about teaching and love to see adult learners develop new skills and reignite a love of learning. It thrills me to watch students blossom, grow with confidence and self belief.
I have always wanted to volunteer and help those less fortunate than ourselves so I made it happen. I have always taught my family to show compassion and empathy for others. I travelled to Belarus for many years working with children in orphanages . Although it was very sad and heart breaking to see the conditions that these children were living in, it also me so much joy bringing a little light into the lives of those vulnerable souls. I am still in contact with many of the children to this day.
My family help regularly with the homeless in Dublin city also. We have done so for years. We organise and create care packages for the forgotten souls of our society. We hand deliver the packs and sit and spend time with these unfortunate souls. Who knew a simple conversation would bring so much joy to a person that is invisible to our society.

Pamela’s Teaching Philosophy
My work in the Montessori ECCE setting enhances my Lecturing ability as I can relate and bring 17 years of experience to the classroom to support the adult learner with their studies. I have been delivering Montessori Courses for Portobello Institute since 2008. I equally have a love and passion for educating adults and assisting them on their educational path in life. I believe it is equally important whether I am educating adults or children to involve the learner in the process. Interaction, respect, communication, participation, consultation and regular reflection are attributes that lead to an environment conducive to learning.
As Michael J Fox once stated “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” – The same could be said for adults!
