Derek Fox has over 30 years’ experience in learning design, management, coaching and development. He spent 15 years in a large multinational corporation and has worked in Europe, Asia, and America.

Tutoring across a number of degree and masters programmes, Derek is also an associate specialist in the area of management, leadership and communications with the IMI (Irish Management Institute) and is a director of DFLeap consulting.

He has designed, managed and delivered on programmes up to and including level 9 awards on the NFQ. Derek has presented to exam boards at QQI, UCC, TCD and IMI.

He has accredited awards in organisational behaviour, psychology, psychometrics, people management, training, elearning, programming languages and engineering. Derek has completed the C.I.P.D (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) accredited Certificate in Training Practices (CTP). He has completed John Townsend’s Master Trainer programme and is a licensed NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) master practitioner.

Derek is a member of the Irish Institute of Training and Development (IITD), the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CiPD), the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) and the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).

Derek has published a number of books including his popular ‘Discovering your Style and Dealing with Difficult People’ and is a regular contributor to business and press publications.

The PGCEi is tailored for online learning, offering one-on-one tutorial support and modular webinars to guide you through each module. Ideal for busy professionals, it allows flexibility while pursuing your postgraduate qualification.

Each module starts with an induction webinar, providing an opportunity to meet your lead lecturer. With the convenience of online access, you can attend lectures remotely and revisit them later.

This course is delivered over three semesters with supported webinars held during scheduled weekends. This programme consists of three core modules. You will complete one module in each semester.

Entry to this course is by direct application to Portobello Institute. Applicants are required to have a minimum of a 2.2 honours undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a related subject discipline.
For non-standard entry, applicants would need to be able to demonstrate a comparable academic standard through past studies and relevant work experience. A minimum of two years’ experience in a professional role in education/education-related practice is required, along with a genuine passion and interest in their professional development.
All applicants must be in a current relevant role, or have access to an appropriate classroom or education setting.
All applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language with IELTS overall 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each component).
