Training and developing special needs assistants working and supporting children and adults within our communities and schools has long been a part of Portobello Institute.

The area of Special Needs Education is receiving substantial funding and investment in recent years and is a rewarding and fulfilling role for those interested in caring for and supporting some of the most vulnerable in our society.

Our QQI Level 5 and 6 courses in Special Needs Assisting give you the opportunity to achieve a recognised qualification. You will acquire the knowledge, empathy, and understanding crucial to your future role as support to persons needing assistance with their learning.

Whether you are already working in special needs education, considering a change of profession, or want to further your knowledge for personal or family reasons, Portobello Institute is dedicated to helping you achieve your goals and reach your full potential.

We have developed multiple delivery modes for our SNA courses. There is an option to suit your individual needs that allows you to fit your study around your busy work and home life.

We believe that real-life learning opportunities, which allow you to learn outside of the classroom, are invaluable in preparing you for your career. Many of our courses incorporate a work experience element that supports you to put into practice the skills and knowledge you have learned in class. This is completed at a time convenient to you. This first-hand experience allows you to develop your skills and confidence and is invaluable in preparing you for your future role.

We are committed to helping you achieve your qualification offering you one-to-one support throughout your learning journey. The programme management and tutoring team for Portobello Institute’s SNA department have been carefully selected on the basis of their qualifications and wealth of practical experience. Each member of our tutoring team is passionate about the field of special needs education and eager to share their knowledge and experience with you.
