John Patrick – Cabin Crew Studies Gave Me My Dream Job

Airline and Cabin Crew Studies student John Patrick Reyes Balazo successfully went on to work in Dublin airport after graduating from Portobello Institute. He looks back on his experiences here.

John Patrick Reyes Balazo never wanted to work in an office or keep his feet on the ground. From a young age, he knew that he belonged in the skies and he belonged with people in planes.

He knew his passion and he knew what interested him most. What he didn’t know was how to pursue it.

That was where Portobello Institute came in. John Patrick studied Airline and Cabin Crew Studies at Portobello before moving on to work in Dublin airport. He primarily works as a customer service agent for Etihad Airways amongst other European and chartered flights.

“I’m a professional check-in service agent to passengers of customer airlines. I ensure that the highest standard of customer service is achieved in an efficient and effective manner. I’ve been working here for more than two years now without having a single day of absence and I thank God for it.”

When you love your job, it’s easy to turn up to work everyday. For John Patrick, this was all he ever wanted to do:

Studying at Portobello afforded John Patrick the opportunity to apply for his dream job but it also broadened his knowledge of various roles in airlines and at the airport. He can fill different roles on different days should he be required to.

He credits the teaching of the staff at Portobello for getting him to where he is now.
